Patriarshiye Ponds (Патриаршие пруды) is one of the most exclusive residential
areas in downtown Presnensky District of Moscow, Russia. It is confusing why
it’s called “Ponds” as for the past 200 years there has been only one pond
there, although the name of Tryokhpudny Pereulok 'Three – Pond Lane', suggests
that there used to be more.
This ‘moscovian’ downtown area became
universally famous, because of how Michail Bulgakov described it in his novel
‘The Master and Margarita’, because not by accident, the writer lived himself
in this area, in the 30s.
